Carry for luck in gambling.  When seeking new employment, a raise or more power in the workplace, carry this herb.  Wear around the neck to ward off evil.  Used as a substitute for shoestrings by hobos in the past century, hence the name.   Rub on hands to control another (not that I advocate this of course)
